Liner brushes are pointed, narrow brushes with very long fibers. Used for delicate lettering, highlighting, outlining, and long, continuous strokes, liner paintbrushes have short handles, round ferrules, and a large color-carrying capability. Use a liner brush for painting with oils, acrylics, and inks. They're are made from natural fibers such as ox and sable, or from synthetic filaments. A rigger or liner brush is a thin brush with extremely long bristles. These may come to a sharp point but can have a flat or square tip. (If angled, it is often called a sword brush.) Rigger brushes are great for producing fine lines with a consistent width, making them ideal for painting thin branches on trees, boat masts, or cat's whiskers.
